Legacy ER Second Year Anniversary

(Frisco, August 19, 2010) Legacy ER Urgent Care and Emergency Room in Frisco, celebrated their two-year anniversary on August 19th.  As part of their celebration, Legacy ER would like to invite the community to come by their center to receive a complimentary first aid kit and a personal tour.

LegacyEr of Frisco supports Haiti Relief EffortsLegacy ER was opened two years ago by three area board certified emergency medicine physicians, Drs. Jay Woody, Kirk Mahon and Steve Martz as a new concept, delivering emergency medicine and urgent care services all in one center.  It’s state-of-the-art equipment and services were designed to serve patients of all ages with illnesses ranging from life threatening emergencies such as heart attacks, stroke, breathing problems, major wounds, broken bones all the way to cold and flu symptoms and other minor medical urgent care conditions.

According to Dr. Martz, “So often we would see many patients in the hospital ER that did not need emergency care services but instead equal treatment from an urgent care center which would have been less expensive along with a shorter wait.  This concern for patient care and cost savings was the key to our starting Legacy ER.”

Free standing emergency rooms have been in a unique situation says Dr. Mahon.  “Although we have been caring for patients in the free-standing ER niche for several years, it has been frustrating for both patients and doctors alike as there were no standards or licensure.  Recently we helped pass legislation at the state level that created a license for free-standing ERs. This license sets the minimum standards for this type of facility, so patients can now be assured that they are receiving quality emergency care that is equivalent to the hospital ER setting. This gives the community an alternative when it comes to emergency room services, and we are glad to be able to provide this option for the citizens of Frisco and its surroundings.”

Legacy ER is very involved in the Frisco community. They are strong supporters of the Frisco Independent School District, Frisco Family Services, Frisco YMCA, Frisco Chamber of Commerce and other local organizations. Legacy ER gives back to the local community and the world. Recently they sponsored the Run for Relief benefiting Haitian Relief Fund and subsequently Dr. Mahon traveled to Haiti as a volunteer to provide medical aid. Dr. Woody was again honored by his peers by being selected to D Magazines’ best doctors in Emergency Medicine for two consecutive years 2009 and 2010. Dr. Martz was also given that same honor by being selected to D Magazine’s best doctor in Emergency Medicine for 2010.

Legacy ER emergency room and urgent care center is located on the NW Corner of Legacy Dr and Main St, in west Frisco.  Their hours of operation are from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily and anniversary celebration visitors may come during these hours.  For patients no appointments are necessary.
