Frequently asked questions

Learn more about pricing, paying bills and how the combination model works.

What’s the difference between an emergency room and urgent care in North Texas?

An emergency room (ER) treats serious or life-threatening conditions that need immediate attention—such as chest pain, severe abdominal pain, dehydration, or complex fractures.

Urgent care is designed for non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries, including common colds, flu, strep throat, minor cuts, and other everyday health concerns.

If you’re unsure where to go, Legacy ER & Urgent Care in North Texas provide both services under one roof—so you can get the right level of care without the guesswork.

What is the difference between my Explanation of Benefits (EOB) and my invoice from Legacy ER & Urgent Care?

An Explanation of Benefits, or EOB, is something the insurance company sends to the patient to explain what is allowed by their policies and what the associated charges are. It is not a bill, but rather a communication from the insurance company to the patient. It may or may not correspond directly to what the final bill is from Legacy ER & Urgent Care.

What is a New Patient designation?

All health care insurance, including Medicare, set a distinction for first visits in an office or urgent care setting. The new patient charge is typically reimbursed at slightly higher rates than all following visits to the same location, due to the additional work required to set up new accounts and obtaining all the necessary details to make this happen. Established patients are those that have been seen at the office or urgent care in the past three years. The charge for an established patient visit is typically less than the new patient charge.

Will I be billed as an emergency room patient in North Texas?

Possibly. Legacy ER & Urgent Care in North Texas is a fully licensed emergency room that uses a unique billing approach based on the level of care you receive.

During urgent care hours (7 a.m.–9 p.m.), you may qualify for urgent care billing if your condition can be treated at that level. Your final billing classification—emergency room or urgent care—is determined by the services and resources used during your visit.

You’ll always be informed of your billing type before you leave, so there are no surprises.
